Arriving at the Hospital, August 15th

Monday we arrived at the hospital, Chengyang People’s Hospital of Qingdao. The hospital is pretty nice and the stem cell patients are considered VIP. The top 2 floors of the hospital are dedicated to stem cell treatment and these floors have a separate express elevator. We are on the 8th floor which is primarily Americans or other English-speaking patients. Each patient gets their own room with their name on the door with a flag from their country of origin. They have interpreters on staff all day that help you with anything you need, whether it be for medical reasons or just to find the nearest market. There is a community kitchen and each room has their own mini-frig and microwave. Our room has a hospital bed for Cooper and a full bed for the caretaker that stays with him. It also has a TV, DVD player and WiFi along with a private bathroom and shower.
The first day we met the other families - they are from Texas, Minnesota, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Canada, Italy, Poland, England and France and range in age from 2 - adult. Most of them are here for vision issues. The doctors did an initial evaluation on Cooper and reviewed his medical records with us and an interpreter.
